He knows

5/18/2025

by Donna Churchill

“But you, O LORD, know me; you see me, and test my heart toward you.”
Jeremiah 12:3a

What a comforting thought!   God knows me and sees me!

What a terrifying thought!   God knows me and sees me!

This verse reminds me of God’s omniscience. He is all knowing. He has complete and infinite knowledge, including everything past, present and future, as well as all possibilities.
He is never surprised by anything.  Also highlighted in this verse is God’s sovereignty and wisdom.

I love to think about God’s sovereignty. He reigns and rules over all, even my heart. He knows me in a way that Hebrews explains, “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (4:13)

All hearts are open to Him and all desires known. No secrets are hidden from Him. He knows our thoughts; He knows our fears. He knows things about us that we don’t even know about ourselves. He knows our sorrows and our joys. He knows what we take delight in and what annoys us. He knows our “secret” sin and He knows when we have victory over it.  He knows our foolish ways and He knows when we exercise wisdom. He knows our hidden griefs and what breaks our hearts. He knows the best path to lay out before us to aid in our sanctification.

There is nothing about us that is hidden from Him. And because He knows us and sees us, He knows how and when to test our hearts that we may be found faithful.

“God alone knows which good gifts will lead us toward him and which will take us from him. And so he arranges, good God that he is, the perfect amount of pleasure and pain to keep us near him, show us more of him, and chase us home to him.”  Scott Hubbard

My heart is full of thanksgiving to know that the Almighty God, Ruler of the Universe, knows me even to the point of knowing what my favorite flower is, and sees me as I rush through my day to get everything on my “To Do” list done. He knows the attitude of my heart in any given situation and he sees when I pretend not to see someone in the supermarket because I don’t have time to chat!

Yes, comforting and terrifying, all at once!

Lord, may I ever be found faithful as you guide me through my day. May I trust you and seek to know you in the midst of it. Thank you that you know me and see me. As your eye is on the sparrow, I know you watch me, too. Teach me to abide in you, to always know you’re near and to reach out to you when I need a heart change. Reorient my heart to you in the difficult times and bring me to repentance when needed. I commit my way to you, in the name of Jesus, Savior and Lord. Amen.
